The Dolphin Quest animals in Hawaii are coastal Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, Tursiops truncatus.
They are well suited to the habitat of the Dolphin Quest lagoons. There are Pacific bottlenose dolphins found in the waters of  Hawaii and French Polynesia, but they are the offshore form. They are larger, live in deeper water, and tend to have a wide oceanic range.

Bottlenose dolphins can be found all over the world except in the Polar Regions.
There is a coastal form and an offshore, deeper-water, form of bottlenose dolphin. The coastal form lives in shallow-water bays, estuaries, and even goes up into rivers.
